Tips and tricks to combat the “post-vacation blues”

Coming back from holidays isn’t easy and at Crowne Plaza Barcelona we know it. Getting back into routine and returning to our day to day life after a long period of relaxing and enjoying, can make it quite uphill for everyone. Either if you have been travelling around the world this summer or if you’ve simply stayed at home resting, here are some of our tips to combat those post-vacation blues and try and make your life back to routine as easy as posible!

1. Frame your memories
Pick up a pen and paper to express everything that you’ve lived. Put together your words with photographs, write down the name of the song that was playing in that moment and make sure you collect those special moments that will make you smile.

2. Organize fun plans
Going back to work after the holidays can make us feel a bit down. For that reason it is important to have short-term plans that will keep us motivated throughout the following months. A weekend getaway, dinner with friends or throwing a party are great options!

3. Get back on a schedule
During the holidays your timetable is probably way different to the usual. We get to go to bed late, wake up even later, eat whenever and more than once such a relaxed state will take us to sleep early. So before you go back to your routine, try and organize your days so that you slowly get back to normal hours and having your usual schedule.

4. Ten minutes in bed
When you start again with your routine don’t start with a hurry. Make sure you stay 10 minutes more in bed when you wake up in order to slowly start your day, meditate and steel yourself for a new day with new responsibilities and challenges. We’re sure that starting your days like this will make them much easier and pleasant!

5. Piano, piano… on your first day back at work
Take your first day back at work easy and with patience, and don’t let stress take over your workspace. Pay attention to changes and movements that have occurred while you were away and confront every situation with your best energy!

6. Organize your tasks
After having been away for a long time it is basic to start by organizing your ideas. Make sure before you get started with anything else that you organize your tasks so that nothing skips your hands. In your notebook, a calendar or on your phone, it will definitely be of much help.

7. Move your body!
Being active again is essential, so make sure you go back to doing sport in order to burn that energy and combat those blues after the holidays. It works!

8. Eat healthy
Eating a healthy and balanced diet will not only benefit us but it will help us feel good with ourselves too. Leave aside for a while those drinks, vermouths, beers, snacks and ice creams and fill your fridge and pantry with fresh fruit, veggies, meat or fish.

9. Moderate caffeine
Caffeine works to wake us up but an excessive consumption can lead us to have more stress and anxiety. By moderating your intake of coffee or tea it will enable you to get back to work without any alterations or extra nervousness.

10. Think positive
Yes, the holidays are over but that shouldn’t be such a big drama! Think positive thoughts: “Today the sun is shining bright”, “I’m so ready to take over the world!” or “I can’t wait to see all my friends!” will definitely help to bring a smile to your face and fight any negative impacts.

As you can see these are just some of the tips that will get you back on track and combat those post-holiday blues. The secret lies in listening to yourself and doing what your body really asks for in order to recover your personal wellbeing. Slowly this path will take you to have a permanent smile when you wake up and go back to your everyday routine.

In Saint Valentine’s Day, believe in love again: 7 tips for your first date

What do singles do on Valentine’s Day? Very good question. We have been inquiring and we have discovered that there are many ways to spend the 14th of February when you don’t have love commitments. There are those who lock themselves at home so that they can’t see couples walking their happiness around, others go out to reaffirm their conviction that they live better alone, others take advantage to stay with their other single friends and there are those who think it is a good day to have a first date.

If you are single and the option that convinced you the most is the last one, continue reading this post, because there are 7 tips to help you know what to do in any situation of a first date:

  • First: always greet with two kisses. Do not let prudence take you to lengthen your arm, because a handshake is the worst start for any date.
  • The most important thing in a first date is to avoid the awkward silences. That’s why it’s better to leave the house with prepared conversation topics: a nice anecdote in the restaurant where you are having dinner, some funny comment about the waiter, questions – never too personal – that show some interest or a selection of three or four short stories about your life.
  • An important clarification: it is not necessary that all the anecdotes you tell are strictly adhering to reality. In a first date, hyperbole for comic or dramatic ends is socially accepted.
  • PROHIBITED topics: religion, politics and football.
  • Never propose to share dishes. You don’t know the tastes of the other person and, if they are different from yours, you will spend time trying to find something that you both like – that’s in case you find it. It’s better that each one has its own food and focus the conversation in topics which you may share.
  • If you have the date in the restaurant of Crowne Plaza Barcelona, you can count on our waiters to accelerate the moment of the desserts and the bill in case something goes wrong.
  • And last, but not least, do not improvise the farewell. Excuse a moment and reflect for two minutes in front of the mirror if you want a second appointment or not. And whatever decision you take, be direct: it’s the only way to avoid the dangerous “we’ll see each other …” that ends with everyone waiting for the other to call and nobody ever calls.

But above all, if you want a first date to go well, dare to believe in love again! With the right attitude and our advice, your Valentine’s date will be exactly as you had dreamed it.

Welcome February. How happy we are that you are already here!

The shortest month of the year of long nights and cold days hosts one of the best parties to let the imagination fly and become the character you want to be: Carnival. This pagan feast began 5000 years ago and seems to have no end. Many people love it!

In this post we give you some ideas to disguise yourself individually or in group, creating your own design in a fast, easy and with an original and attractive result. Here it goes!

Thief
One of the most fun and suitable for all audiences. The costume is simple, you just have to dress in a horizontal striped shirt and dark pants and shoes. Put on a mask to hide your eyes and carry a bag or a sac where you take your loot!

Gourmet cook
An original costume to disguise yourself with your family. The clothing is simple, you only need a cooking jacket or a robe (black or white are the most common colors), and a toque blanche, the traditional chef’s cap. For the youngest ones, you can use the same clothes or, if you want to make it more likeable, you can dress them of some ingredient you use for cooking. They will look delicious!

Indians

The key element is the feather headdress, an accessory that you can easily do following the guidelines of the video below/above. The most common thing is to place the feathers on the head, although you can also wear them as earrings, as a necklace or hanging from the shoes. For her, a top and a skirt with a fringe finish is very much in line with the theme. For him, a waistcoat and long and wide trousers fit perfectly in the style of the constume. Other accessories that complement the outfit are leather boots or an arrow bow and, as a last touch, stripes or painted designs on the face.

Prince and Princess

One of the most dreamed costumes by all, children, but adults too! To be the main characters of the castle, or the hotel,  you do not need many elements. Less is more. For her we propose a simple outfit, with a long, elegant and not very striking dress to highlight the accessories: a crown, big and shiny earrings, high heels or a bracelet would be the most suitable. For him, a suit with vest, wide pants and long boots, a velvet cloak and a sword also go according to the outfit.

Steve Jobs
We love the simplicity of the disguise and the character it represents. The father of the brand Apple has become one of the most representative celebrities of the 21st century, even if he is no longer with us. The clothing is more than easy: a black sweater with a turtleneck, gray metallic round glasses and pants of a neutral color. If you accompany this with an Apple accessory or print the logo, you have won the party!
